Behind the Layer 9 Name

The OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model is a conceptual model for the 7-layers involved in computer communication. The model starts with the physical layer, which is the network connection in the back of the computer and extends to the application layer, this being the software, such as Word, Excel and email. This model is extended into the real world, the eighth layer being the person who interacts with the software and layer 9 being the organisation that the person works for.
